The Canadian fleet was off to a rough start this week in the Skandia Sail For Gold Regatta at Yarmouth and Portland National sailing academy in Dorset England. Today the Star, Men’s 470, Men’s and Women’s RS:X, SKUD, Sonar, 49er 2.4mR and Finn classes were all on the course, in light winds and cool 10 degree air.
Shout out of the day goes to our Canadian SKUD crew, John McRoberts and Stacie Louttit, who finished first over the line in their fleet. Also huge props to Isabella Bertold who sits at second overall after landing a bullet in her first race and a fourth in her second. Beauty good Isabella! Next on the leader score board is our Star crew, Tyler Bjorn and Richard Clarke who finished 2nd place in one race held. Paul Tingley in his 2.4mR class saw one race today, he finished 11th in a 36 boat fleet. Our Sonar Fleet crewed by Bruce Millar, Logan Campbell and Scott Lutes also only had one kick at the can today, landing a 9th in a 15 boat fleet.
In a competitive 45 boat fleet, our 470 men’s duo Luke Ramsay and Mike Leigh competed in 2 races, coming 19th in the first and improving to 9th in the second. The 49er guys Gordon Cook and Hunter Lowden made quick decisions in 3 races, nailing down 17th, 14th and 16th place finishes to leave them at 24th overall. Vancouverite Zac Plavsic finished 20th in only one race today.
Nikola Girke in the Women’s RS:X and Greg Douglas in the Finn got muscled to the back of their packs today, landing a 35th overall and 37th overall respectively, both in 40 plus boat fleets.
