The seventh running, extremely popular Sail for Gold Regatta sponsored by Skandia in Weymouth, UK kicks off in less than a week. The 2011 regatta saw over 1000 sailors competing at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in this pre-Olympic event and expects even more for this year’s event. All the Canadian Olympic hopefuls will be in attendance, gaining valuable on-water experience against their rivals who will be at the 2012 Olympic Games. This event is the equivalent of an Olympic dress rehearsal, being held at the same venue, with most of the key players who will be seen at the big show in August. Canada will have all its bases covered, with representatives in every fleet, with exception to Women’s 470 and match racing. This regatta is the sixth event in the ISAF world cup series, number seven being in Kiel, Germany later in June. Keep an eye on the team website, the Canadian Olympic Nominees will be announced prior to this event!
