It was the final of five days racing at the Star 2012 World Championship in Hyères, France for the Canadian men's keelboat team Tyler Bjorn
and Richard Clarke. In keeping with the pattern of the week, variable conditions presented challenges. The canucks, having already qualified for the Olympics in Perth, continue to tune their skills among the worlds' most elite sailors while other countries were still battling for the final Olympic spots. Frustration mounted for the boys in yesterday's races, being forced out at the pin end by the Greek's and losing ground on a few shifts. Today was a marked improvement pulling out a top 10 result. Bjorn tweets "Good finish to the regatta with a top 10 in the final race".
In the end, Clarke & Bjorn moved up one spot to 18th overall. Brazil's Scheidt/Prada took the title in a very close battle with GBR's Percy/Simpson.
Lessons learned and positive attitudes see Tyler and Richard headed to the Sail for Gold Regatta at the end of this month in Weymouth, England where they'll get their toes wet again at the Olympic venue. Both sailors are hungry for a medal, and we wish them the best of luck.
