The 29th edition of the Delta Lloyd Regatta is just a few short days away. A long time stalwart event on the European circuit has continued to
thrive and evolve as the years pass. Most recently the evolution was from the ISAF World Cup circuit to the newly created Champions Sailing Cup. Medemblik and the Delta Lloyd event joins Faglia Vela Riva, ITA, Kieler Woche GER, Sail for Gold GBR and Semaine Olympique Francaise in La Rochelle to for the new Champions Cup circuit.

Olympic and Paralympic Champions competing include Gold Medallists; Dorian Van Rijsselberghe, NED (RSX), Helena Lucas GBR (2.4mR), Lijia Xu CHN (Radial), Matt Belcher AUS (470), Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie NZL (470 w), 2012 Silver Medallists: Marit Bouwmeester NED (Radial) and 2012 Bronze Medallists; Allan Norregaard DEN (49er) Peter Lang DEN (49er) each sailing with new partners, and Przemyshaw Miarozynski POL (RSX).
Last month’s winners, Brad Boston and the crew of the Viper 640 “Jackpot” continued their winning ways with an impressive victory in the 33
boat fleet at the Sperry Topsider Charleston Race Week. Scoring only one bullet in the 8 race series, it was the consistency of their results (their throwout was a 5) that put them on the top of the podium, continuing their run of successful visits to the South Carolina venue.

Canadian interest in this Bermuda based boat comes from the key involvement of Canadian Olympians Richard Clarke and Mike Wolfs and 2009 Canadian Rolex Sailor of the Year Curtis Florence. “Hedgehog”, including four bullets, took the 8 race series by just three points after a close battle with the US Melges 24 skippered by Bora Gulari.
Sail Canada/Voile Canada is pleased and excited to announce the appointment of Mark Asquith as a National Team Coach.
Mark will take up his role on May 1st, joining the coaching team of Steve Mitchell, Erik Stibbe and Chris Cook, under the leadership of Sail
Canada’s High Performance Director Ken Dool.
Canada’s High Performance Director Ken Dool. Mark brings a wealth of sailing experience from his time on Team GBR, combining 11 years of top level campaigning in the 49er with coaching the GBR 29er team, as well as work with the sailing teams of Mexico, Sweden Bermuda and Canada.
Mark will take charge of the Canadian Sailing Team’s Skiff program, developing campaigns in both the 49er and FX classes. He will be based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he will also act as Lead Coach for the Canadian Sport Centre, Atlantic as well as assisting the Nova Scotia Yachting Association with their High Performance program.
Olympian Chris Cook was inducted into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club. Established in 1997,
the mandate is to recognize and honour the names and the accomplishments of individuals who have brought fame to the community of Whitby and to themselves through their athletic prowess and contributions to sport.
A member of the Canadian Sailing Team since 1997 Chris has earned numerous achievements in sailing including five top ten finishes in his Finn Class at the Open Finn Gold Cup (6th in 2001, 3rd in 2005, 9th in 2006, 7th in 2007, and 6th in 2008).
Chris was also the North American Champion in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2009, was awarded Sail Canada Male Athlete of the Year in 2001, and Canadian Rolex Sailor of the Year in 2005. In 2005 Chris achieved a world ranking of 2nd in the Finn Class.
Radial sailor Brenda Bowskill and Olympian Luke Ramsay made a quick stop at Sail Canada headquarters on their way to Toronto for a

This dynamic couple are both actively campaigning for Rio 2016 in separate classes however decided to team up recently to take on the F18 Southern Championships. "It's a fast intense boat. We worked well together, it was a fun experience" says Ramsay, currently partnered in the Nacra with former RSX Olympian Nikola Girke. Luke previously competed at the 2012 Olympic Games with former 470 teammate Mike Leigh.

You may find this newly formed Nacra duo, Ramsay/Girke, in Kieler Woche this June however their main focus is the World Championships taking place in July. "We have a few more training camps in Miami and then we will put our hard work to the test." says Ramsay.
